1.    Data

The first basic component of computer is called data. The facts and figures we get from the environment are called data. For example, now the time is 1315 hours. Here data is presenting a fact. That fact or figure is called data. In a computer system, we use data as input. Without data computer systems cannot be performed. Data is the performance of all actions in the computer system. There are five types of data:-

• Numerical Data. The data consisting of numbers or figures are called numerical data. This data is also of two types, i.e, Integer Data (0,1,2,5,9, etc) and Float Data (2.3,3.5, 4.7,7.6, etc).

• Alphabetic Data. The data consists of an alphabet called alphabetic data. For example, A, B, C, …., Z, etc.

• Alphanumeric Data. This type of data is a combination of numerical data and alphabetic data. For example. 456B, 56K, 76GH.etc.

• Audio Visual Data. The data in the shape of audio or video is called Audio-Visual Data. The sound is called audio data, and the image is called video data.

• Physical Data. Such type of data exists physically in our environment. For example, measurement of temperature, speed of winds, etc.

2. Hardware

Hardware is the basic component of computer system. The computer's physical components that we can touch are called hardware. There are four types of hardware:-

• Input / Out Put Hardware. These are the hardware that is in use. For example. Mouse, Keyboard, Printer, etc. 

• Processing Hardware. A chip in a computer system, i,e, CPU is called processing Hardware.

• Storage. The hardware uses for the storage of data. For example, RAM, ROM, Hard disc, etc. 

• Networking Hardware. Hardware that connects one computer to another computer is called networking hardware.

3. Software

Software is another component of computer system. Software is instructions. Software is different programs. The software enables the hardware to process the data. We cannot process the data without software. There are two types of software:- 

• System Software. The operating system is called system software, for example, Window.

• Application Software. With the help of system software, we run application software. For example, different Games, MS Word, MS Excell, etc.

4.     User

The fourth and last basic component of a computer system is called the User. A human is a user that operates a computer. A user performs input to the computer system. Without a user, the computer system cannot run. Without a user, the computer cannot generate. It is impossible to perform any function without a user. Hence working of a user is compulsory in computer systems.
